How can individuals and organizations make better decisions?

I am Professor of Decision Sciences, Behavioral Economics and Supply Chain Management at MCI | The Entrepreneurial School® in Innsbruck and Privatdozent at the University of Bayreuth.

My work combines decision analysis, behavioral economics, and data science. I am interested not only in how decisions are actually made, but especially in how their quality can be improved systematically.

After completing my doctorate and habilitation at the University of Bayreuth, I joined MCI in Innsbruck as a professor in 2017. For me, research, education, and application belong together: scientific insights should not only explain decision making, but also help individuals and organizations make better decisions.

Turning uncertainty into better decisions

My research examines how individuals and organizations can make better decisions under uncertainty and conflicting objectives. A current focus lies at the intersection of data science, artificial intelligence, and decision models: data, predictions, and AI-generated information create value only when they are meaningfully embedded in transparent and responsible decision processes.

Developing decision-making competence – and putting it into practice

A particular focus of my work is the development of decision-making competence. Together with partners, I develop and evaluate approaches that help people clarify objectives, generate better alternatives, and make complex decisions in a structured way. Since 2020, I have also served on the Advisory Council of the international Alliance for Decision Education.

My research is also closely connected to real-world decision problems – from portfolio decisions in pharmaceutical research to infrastructure and energy decisions and public-policy decision support.
